With a special thank you to ACCEL students, adults and staff, the following are some of the responses given by persons with special needs to questions regarding their visions of “Home”:
• “I want to have a pool in my backyard…pets…a Dairy Queen by my house. I want to live in California.”
• “I want to live in Phoenix…with family. I want Mom to cook my meals!”
• “A house in Hawaii is my dream home…I want a McDonald’s in my neighborhood.”
• “I want a food room…a computer room in my house to do important work. I want a pet room.”
• My house would have “…3 bedrooms and a pool.”
• “I would like to have a German Sheperd…I will need help getting a job.”
• “A happy family is the most important part of home to me.”
• “I would like to start off in an apartment and then move to a house.”
• “I want to live with dogs. I want to be near a dog park, hospital for dogs, Petsmart, Petco and Walmart.”
•“I want to live in a nice house with a big yard. I want roommates if they are clean and responsible.”
•“I want movie theaters, a grocery store, Walmart and Best Buy in my neighborhood.”
•“I want to live with my family. (I wish) my house was at Disneyland.”
ACCEL is excited to announce that we are in the process of considering residential services for children, youth and adults to meet the growing need for quality residential options within our community. Our goal is to ensure that the wants, needs and dreams held by persons with special needs and their families are an integral part of the planning and development process.
