Dear ACCEL families and visitors, HAPPY NEW YEAR! We are THRILLED to start our new year by announcing that one of ACCEL's master teachers, Judy Tabin, has been recognized by NAPSEC (National Association of Private Special Education Centers) as the 2009 Educator of the Year. She was selected in recognition of excellence and innovativeness in meeting the needs of students with special needs. She will be presented with the award in January at the NAPSEC National Leadership Conference at South Seas Island Resort, FL NAPSEC is a national, non-profit organization of over 300 member programs whose mission is to represent private special education centers and their leadership. NAPSEC promotes high quality programs for individuals with disabilities and their families and advocates for the continuum of alternative placements and services. Read on for a brief look at what is happening this month: Outdoor Cafe Underway: Visitors to the Metro Campus may notice new construction near the front entrance. This is the beginning phase of our new outdoor Metro Cafe! The development and preparation of this exciting project was made possible through a grant from Arizona Community Foundation. Thanks to their generosity, our students will have opportunities to generalize (practice) their food service skills in an outdoor dining patio, serving not only the ACCEL community but our neighbors and nearby businesses as well. Pursuit of National Accreditation: ACCEL is beginning the challenging process for national accreditation by The National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services. This is a process which encourages variety in educational practice and innovation and assures that students in private special education settings are provided services in environments that are healthy, safe, comfortable, and conducive to learning.
