Dear ACCEL families and visitors, Happy Fall y'all! Although 2008 will be coming to a close very shortly, it’s definitely a time of new beginnings and ventures at ACCEL, especially in our vocational program. We are proud to announce the opening of our new Transition to Work/Career Preparation Center, located adjacent to the Metro Campus in a professional business complex. Students who attend this program have progressed to a level of vocational success that has earned them greater independence in the development of real world job skills. Students will be participating in a wide variety of work opportunities both on site with vocational teachers and off site with a job coach. Through a grant awarded from Nina Pulliam Mason Charitable Trust, a van has been purchased to transport students to off campus vocational sites as well as enable students to address educational and community goals through field trip experiences. We also want to extend a HUGE thank you to Safeway Diversity Group for their generous donations that included necessary school supplies. Their ongoing support and past assistance have been invaluable to our programs. ACCEL is beginning the challenging process for national accreditation by The National Commission for the Accreditation of Special Education Services. This is a process which encourages variety in educational practice and innovation and assures that students in private special education settings are provided services in environments that are healthy, safe, comfortable, and conducive to learning. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Parent-Teacher Night at the East Campus on November 5 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and for Metro's Annual Open House Nov. 19 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. And, have you "herd"? Our Scholastic Book Fair 2008 "Book Fair Safari" is scheduled for Nov. 19-21 on the Metro Campus from 7:45 - 3:30 daily. There is always a great variety of books for a wide range of interests. Lastly, whether you are shopping for the upcoming holidays or shopping for your every-day needs, please make ACCEL your one stop Gift Card Shop. Order forms have been sent home with students, so please place your SCRIP order, attach a check, and return it to school with your student.
